How much Colostrum should be given to a kitten? I've been taking care of an orphaned kitten, who is know 5 days old. I got the Colostrum powder hoping it would help improve it's immune system. Does anyone know the measurements for how much powder should be given and how frequently? I've taken it to the vet and he told me nothing other than the kitten was a little dehydyrated. He offered NO advice or even mentioned that Pedialyte and colostrum could be used. Which I found out from a friend. Colostrum Info: Symbiotics: Colostrum Plus Powder 960mg per serving (proprietary blend with bovine colostrum and phospholipids) 2/3 Teaspoon for an adult human Half that for Children This is just a general powder not specificly marked for kittens. But I am under the impression that it doesn't matter what type of Colostrum it is.

Are bovine colostrum supplements safe to take during pregnancy and/or lactation? Please advise regarding the benefits and risks of this supplement. I've only heard about it on the market for the last few years, but was it in use before this? What are the advantages and disadvantages of taking it in powdered form versus raw liquid? Thank you! And, I've heard that dried colostrum that has been dried by using heat destroys many of the health benefits. But, what about when you take the raw, unpasteurized colostrum (like, the straight from the cow kind--but bottled). Can you heat that up and drink it warm?
Has anyone's baby ever just hated powder formula? My daughter was born with the cord wrapped around her neck and needed to be in the NICU for a few days for observation because she inhaled some amniotic fluid. They gave her Similac ready to feed (even though I told them to let me try and breast feed first!) :( So for the first 6 days she had ready to feed and my colostrum (milk dried up). I bought a bunch of powder kind and she was so fussy and kept spitting it up. I happen to have a ready to feed from the hospital and she sucked it down and was fine. I asked her doctor and she said she never heard of a baby HAVING to have the ready to feed as oppose to the powder or concentrated. I have tried all three kind on her and she refuses anything but the ready to feed. We even mixed 1 oz powder and 3 oz ready to feed and she KNEW we had tricked her and she screamed. We threw out the huge can we bought and bought her all ready to feed and she has been fine. Has anyone else ever had a baby do this? We even had her doctor mix it for us... because we thought maybe we were doing it wrong. She screamed bloody murder at that too. Her doctor looked puzzled and said "If she wont take the powder, the ready to feed is more expensive, but of course give her that". We do not care about the money, we have plenty and our baby's needs come first. I am just puzzled at why this could have happened? Any ideas? Oh and we tried different temps and everything. (Oh and before you say anything, yes, I tried re lactating for a week before my doctor made me stop because of the new meds I am on for a condition I have). :( So she has her ready to feed and she is happy! :)
Is it chemically harmful to mix colostrum/breastmilk and formula? ? For the past two days I've been pumping my colostrom and mixing the little that I get w/powdered formula. My friend said her pedi instructed her to do this and her daughter did well, so I went ahead and did the same. Now my other friend is telling me not to mix the two b/c they can chemically interact and cause the baby to have kidney damage or other digestive problems. Does anybody know if this true? Can the two interact in a harmful manner? *** And to the breast nazis please: I want to know if it's chemically harmful, not be preached to. Get a life!***

Whole milk or milk replacer? I asked this question yesterday but didn't get any good answers so here goes- I've raised numerous goat kids in the past and have always raised them on commercial kid milk replacer. However, I've recently heard that whole cow's milk is just as good, if not better than powdered milk. I'm really just looking for some other experienced goat herders opinions on this matter and what works best for them. I have a two day old kid rejected by her mother. She is still getting colostrum. Thanks

20 weeks pregnant and peeling skin on breasts? tmi sorry...? I am wondering if this is common or not to have peeling skin on the nipples of the breasts while pregnant? I haven't changed soaps or washing powders recently and I don't have this on my skin anywhere else, but my skin is constantly peeling here and I am wondering if this is hormonal or if anyone else has experienced this? I will ask my doc on Monday but I don't want to call the office for something so silly lol. Any ideas? A couple of weeks ago I did leak a little colostrum but that has stopped. **Please no smarta** answers, I know this is a silly question I'm merely curious.

Whole milk or milk replacer??? I just had twin fainting goats born last night (yay!) and the first time mom rejected her little female. I've raised numerous bottle babies in the past and have always raised them on commercial kid milk replacer. However, I've recently heard that whole cow's milk is just as good, if not better than powdered milk. I'm really just looking for some other experienced goat herders opinions on this matter and what works best for them. She's on colostrum now. Thanks First of all, the pet store does not carry livestock and would not know anything about goats. Second of all, I know what I'm doing and the kid is very healthy and doing well. I'm not asking for people who know nothing about goats to answer my question, I'm asking for EXPERIENCED goat owners opinions on what they feed their kids.
