What color should the colostrum be that you leak during pregnancy?

I'm a little nervous because I keep reading about ladies leaking a clearish-whitish liquid. In the last two nights I've put out of few drops of this sticky yellowish-brown stuff. Normal? Not normal? I'm at 24 weeks - and thanks

  1. From Wikipedia "Colostrum (also known as beestings or first milk) is a form of milk produced by the mammary glands in late pregnancy and the few days after giving birth. Human and bovine colostrum is thick ,sticky and yellowish. In humans, it has high concentrations of nutrients and immunities, but it is small in quantity." Personally, mine was sticky and yellowish too. Tell your doctor or midwife on your next visit, just to put your mind at rest.
  2. Colostrum is clear, not opaque, liquid that ranges in colour from almost clear to a deep yellow. Opaque whitish is milk which doesn't start being produced until a few days after a baby is born.
  3. Every one may be different I dk, but mine with both of my children was a milkie look, white almost with a tint of light yellow sometimes.
  4. You sound normal to me! Each woman is different and that sounds fine but if you are still worried bring this up with your DR. at next appt.
  5. If it is a yellowish-light tanish color, yes, that is normal!
  6. Oh, entirely normal!! Mine started at 26 weeks with my second, although I didn't have it at all with my first until 2 days before labour! Mine ranges actually, from being clear or whitish and very watery in substance, right through to what you describe, a sticky dark yellow liquid. Apparently it is all normal, as I queried the difference in textures with my doctor when it happened. No worries - it will come through properly when your little 'un arrives! Congats and good luck! :-) *Mum to Alex, 5, and Encarni, due in 1 week!*
  7. It only happened once for me so far, sometime around 24 weeks, right after I got out of the shower one night, and it was perfectly clear and colorless. I thought it was water until I wiped it away and it came right back. It hasn't happened since. (I'm at 30 weeks today)
  8. Mine was always orangey, and sticky.
