clear colostrum..?Confused?

I am 23 weeks now, and today a clear liquid was coming from my breasts..I know it is normal to leak during pregnancy, but I thought colostrum was supposed to be a yellowish color at first, and only clear in the later stages of pregnancy? At least that is what all the books/websites say, so why is mines clear now? Serious answers only pls! Thanks :)

  1. everyone is different.. with my first it was clear and with my second it was very yellowish!
  2. Mine started out clear at first now it's starting to get yellowish. I've been lactating since about 22 weeks and now I'm 37 weeks.
  3. sure, mine was clear and stayed that way until my milk started coming in. No worries.
  4. It is normal to have leakage. Leave it alone and your body will adjust. It doesn't really matter what color the colostrum is. Remember that your hormones are all over the chart and this helps in the leakage too... When it comes closer to delivery, your hormones will help your breast produce what is needed to feed your baby. Good Luck! j
  5. With our first: at first it was clear then milkish color. With our second, I didn't have any till after he was born
  6. My colostrum was clear, too. I thought it was supposed to be yellow, but the nurses said clear colostrum was normal.
  7. colostrum doesn't have to be yellowish. mine was always clear through both pregnancies. how ever you might notice the further along you get it might turn a foggy color which is also normal it is just fat entering your system. please don't worry yourself over this it is really normal!
  8. clear is normal.
  9. it will change. your just starting to make the colostrum.
  10. It's very normal to have clear fluid leakage from your breasts during mid-to late pregnancy. After the baby is born, it is clear for the first few days and then becomes more "milky" however it still has a transparent look to it. Everyone is different though. I'm sure it's nothing to be concerned about. Your body knows exactly what it needs to do ;o)
  11. I had this with my first pregnancy. It was a clear fluid. That doesn't mean anything. I don't know if it is called colostrum when pregnant but is when you are starting to nursing and yes it is yellow. After I had the baby it was a yellow as can be, so don't get nurvous yet. My cousin did have clear milk and couldn't nurse but that has nothing to do with what you are having. Good luck and everything will be fine!
  12. You are correct. The liquid is not as clear as you think. If you were to pump your breasts (please don't), you would notice a yellowish tint to the liquid. Even once the baby is born, the first few days the premilk has a yellowish tint, and it is a little bit thicker than your normal breastmilk. It is completely normal for your breasts to leak during pregnancy. Just a sidenote, I got married when I was 25 weeks with my first, as soon as I got into my wedding gown, I started leaking for the first time... Talk about embarrasing. My maid of honor's husband ran home, grabbed her old breastpads (I know ewww but what else could i do?), and a hairdryer, and by the time the ceremony started nobody could tell. The point is, even in my white wedding gown, there wasn't a yellowish tint. Second moral, buy some breastpads to avoid embarrassment.
  13. The color of colostrum doesn't discriminate against stages of pregnancy lol. You can leak either clear or yellowish colostrum anytime during pregnancy. I started to leak around 28 weeks and it was completely clear until around 32 weeks.
