nipple rings breast feeding?

i am 33 weeks pregnant. i have had nipple rings for the past ten years and am planning to breastfeed. i read it shouldnt be too much of a problem, however, i would like to know from women with personal experience if there was problems and also when is a good time to take them out, or does it matter. also when during pregnancy did colostrum start leaking.

  1. i wont be able to help you on the nipple ring part... but your Dr will start pushing you to breast feed right when the baby is born b/c the fist day or 2 is when the colostrum starts leaking. and Colostrum is best for the baby. (it gives the babies antibodies, protiens, and more things that are essential in a baby's fist few days of life.)
  2. I don't personally have my nipples pierced but my best friend did. The actual breastfeeding wasn't a problem for her or the baby, (she just took the piercing out before she nursed), but she ended up taking them out after a few weeks anyway because her nipples were so sore from a problem with the baby latching that it was killing her to have to put the rings in and out all the time. As far colostrum, I didn't start leaking with my son until a week or two before he was born. hope that helps
  3. I also have mine done but I am not a mother. I've heard that it will not be a problem when trying to breast feed. I really hope its not too because I love my rings and I would hate to take them out. ha ha ha The rings you have in might make a difference. A hoop might make it harder for a baby than barbells.
  4. I don't have nipple rings, but you should know that probably around half of all pregnant women experience no leaking, no increase in breast size, and/or no breast tenderness and they all make plenty of milk. You can actually leave the nipple rings in if you want as long as you remove them during feedings, although that is probably way to inconvenient. http://www.kellymom.com/health/lifestyle/mom-activities.html#piercing http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mom/bfhelp-mother.html#piercednipple
  5. I took out my barbells when I was at the hospital in labor. Some ppl need to take them out sooner if breasts get too large. I haven't had any problem breastfeeding and my little girl is 8 weeks old. I havent put mine back in yet, some ppl jus take out the rings every time they feed..but I thought I would get sick of doing that.. and I didnt haveany leaking before labor. Good Luck!!
  6. My friend had her nipple pierced and took it out to breastfeed because it was too painful. Some people have been able to keep them in, but I think a vast majority of people take them out. I guess it depends on the person and the pain they can tolerate? Some people start leaking earlier before the baby is born, and some don't start until after labor. It's really hard to say WHEN it will come as each person is different. Usually beforehand, but don't be alarmed if it doesn't. I would recommend grabbing some formula just in case.
  7. you will not have anymore pre-mature leaking than anyone else. If anything a piercing should delay leaking because of the scar tissue. Anyway you will not have a problem breastfeeding at all...enjoy!
  8. i think u should take it off but u can ask ur dr about it
