False Pregnancy in Dogs?

My dog ent through her first heat cycle and we thought we watched her carefully enough. I know that the dog from down the street got out a few times during that time too. Her heat was around June 23, we have noticed over tht last few weeks we saw that her nipples had started to drop and yesterday we noticed that she was producing colostrum. Our male dog was neutered when she was 3 months old so it couldnt have been him. Our dogs did try to mate so would that cause her to have a false pregnancy? My mother doesnt think shes pregnant but I do. She hasnt put on much weight and shes not showing like some dogs Ive seen when their pregnant, but I have also seen dogs that are skinny have only one pup. How do we know if were going to be getting puppies or not?

  1. False preg> I bred dogs and the only way to find out if your dog is pregnent is to take her to the vet and get an x-ray done. she can have a false pregn.just because she thinks shes pregn. and can go thru labor too play it safe have her x-raydone to answer your question. hope this helped you!
  2. She needs to go to the vet of course. If she is pregnant, she needs a pre-natal check-up and you need to learn how to look after a pregnant bit ch, help her whelp and raise a litter of new borns. If she's going through a false pregnancy, she needs to be spayed so it doesn't keep happening.
  3. You need to take her to the vet-he will scan her and tell you whether or not she is pregnant.
  4. She could be having a false pregnancy round about this time. Is she trying to make nests everywhere and carrying her toys around? She would also be producing colostrum. If her heat started on June 23 and she had possibly mated with a dog, then she would whelp 63 days after the mating so usually a female will ovulate between the 11th and 14th days from the start of her heat. These days are known as her 'mating days' so, if you count from two weeks after her first day ,this brings her to possibly conceiving around the 7th July, which means that her puppies are due any time around 8th Sept. It might be a good idea to pop her down to the Vet and get her checked. He can palpate her abdomen and tell you if she is in whelp. If you find she is in whelp you had better start giving her an extra meal per day now otherwise the puppies will completely drain her and she won't have the stamina to give them enough milk when the time comes. Good luck.
  5. Your female dog would be showing by now, and she would have gained some weight. You may also try feeling her belly area and you may feel the puppies start to kick. Do not push down too hard, but hard enough that you would feel something inside her. I know when my Yorkie was pregnant, you could not tell until the end of her pregnancy. That is when the puppies would start to kick, but with my female dachshund, you could tell right away that she was pregnant. May I ask, what kind of breed of dog do you have? The smaller breeds you should be able to tell by the end of her first month and the larger breeds you may not be able to tell until later.
  6. the only sure way to know is to take the dog to the vet. Pregancy will last 63 days from beginning of heat cycle. I have one dog that had 4 false. They act the same until it would be time to have puppies
