Colostrum Powder

Are bovine colostrum supplements safe to take during pregnancy and/or lactation?

Please advise regarding the benefits and risks of this supplement. I've only heard about it on the market for the last few years, but was it in use before this? What are the advantages and disadvantages of taking it in powdered form versus raw liquid? Thank you! And, I've heard that dried colostrum that has been dried by using heat destroys many of the health benefits. But, what about when you take the raw, unpasteurized colostrum (like, the straight from the cow kind--but bottled). Can you heat that up and drink it warm?

  1. ask your doctor
  2. Colustrum was previously used for the treatment of diarrhoea. However, because it contains so many beneficial substances, it has recently been recommended for diverse purposes including lowering blood cholesterol levels and body fat, treatment of Alzheimer's and regulation of blood glucose levels. Taking the raw liquid means you have the advantage of getting living immune cells and immunoglobulins that would otherwise be destroyed by heat. it does put you at risk of getting any disease the cow may have e.g. bovine tuberculosis. I would not risk taking either form during preg or lactation.
