Anyone heard of giving Colostrum as supplement?
As we are trying to fix my daughters digestive and intestinal problems we came across a remedy commonly used to treat it...Colostrum. They actually get it from cows and it has the same make up with slightly higher vitamins than our colostrum. While it may sound a little weird to give my two year old drops of this, has anyone ever used it on a toddler or heard about it. Just want to make sure it's a legit (I researched the company as well as was referred to it and everything seems fine) supplement before I start using it.

- First of all why is your daughter having digestive and intestinal problems? You should give more information on this. Colostrum is perfectly safe but if your daughter has milk allergies you must not give this to her. Most children are allergic to cows milk. I began giving my son cows milk when he turned 1 year old. He got severe diarrhea, vomiting and diaper rashes. We took him off the cows milk and switched to soy milk which stopped the problems. He is not lactose intolerant. He is allergic to another enzyme in the cows milk. This enzyme is destroyed during the processing of milk products which enables him to eat cheese, yogurt, and ice cream. I don't know if you give your daughter cows milk but if you do this would be the first thing I would take out of her diet. Try the Vanilla Soy Milk, kids seem to like that better than the regular one. Also note that the typical dosage of Colostrum, in clinical trials, for an adult would be 60 grams per day so for a child it would be 30 grams and an infant 20 grams. Most Colostrum supplements state their typical dosage as 1-6 grams per day. It is unknown whether or not these small doses will provide the benefits demonstrated in clinical studies. I just read on a website that it is not recommended for children. It would really help if you gave more information on her condition i.e. when did it start? what are her symptoms? when does the problem arise? how often? And again, take a good look at getting her off the cows milk. Be sure to read carefully through all of the websites on this product. Hope this helps somewhat. Good luck!
- colostrum is the best food/milk ever. but save the cow's colostrum for the calf. if your child really needs it, try to find a new mom's colostrum instead. still, best thing to do, take your child to a pedia
- I am not familiar with dosing it to a child except through breast feeding. Colostrum is the thin, yellow, milky fluid excreted from the breast before or a few days after giving birth. We use it as a supplement for patients receiving enteral nutrition as a protein supplement.
