37 weeks and not leaking colostrum yet...?

I am 37 weeks pregnant and have not produced any colostrum yet. I am 31 years old and this is my second pregnancy-my first one was when I was 19, and I produced colostrum at approx. 6 months with that pregnancy, and I breastfed for a few months. I would like to breastfeed again. Is the lack of colostrum production an indicator that I may not be able to breastfeed this time? I would ask my doctor but every question I ask, her reply is that it is 'normal'; I feel like I should make up a fancy, outrageous question to ask her just to see if her reply will still be 'oh, that's normal'... =-D

  1. With my first child I had colstrum at 20 weeks. hardly produced milk and gave up at 6 weeks ( i mean i was only producing up to 2 oz a day) My second child I never leaked and I had enough milk for twins by pumping but couldn't nurse My third child I never leaked and was immediately successful with nursing till she quit cold turkey at 9 months My fourth child I've been leaking since 12 weeks! So it is normal and so crazy how each pregnancy is different and it has nothing to do with how much milk you will have ;-) Congrats on your baby and I hope you have a safe, healthly, painless as can be labor and delivery!
  2. I was pregnant twice now and I didn't leak colostrum either time during my pregnancy. I didn't try to breastfeed with either of them, hopefully I'll have another one to try breastfeeding with. In any case though, I didn't leak any at all throughout either of my pregnancies.
  3. my doctor was like that too. it got really frustrating, i was ready to see another doc. i didnt leak either, I could express it manually, but it never leaked on its own. and I have five kids!!! and currently nursing twins. so you will have more than enough milk. the body works on a supply and demand system. when the baby comes, and begins to nurse, your breasts have colostrum, and in about three to four days, your milk will have come in. good luck with the new baby, and the breast feeding too.
  4. Being every pregnancy is different, it just may take longer this time!!! Mine was at the very end in the last one producing it!!!!You should have it by birth!!!!
  5. I never leaked colostrum while being pregnant. I successfully breastfed my baby girl for eight months. Remember, every pregnancy and every baby is different.
  6. a lot of women dont leak until after they have their baby. I started when i was in my last week of being 4 months pregnant. Everyones body is different so we all wnt leak. Good luck and Congrats
  7. Sorry but it is 'normal' for a lot of people to not leak colostrum until AFTER the birth! Its super rare for someone to not be able to breastfeed so dont worry about that!
  8. i wouldnt worry im 41 weeks n only leaked 2 day 4 the 1st time n it was only a tiny spot so theres still time 4 u yet
