breasts leaking colostrum already?

I am 27 weeks pregnant(almost 7 months) and I was doing my monthly self breast examination and as i was feeling around my nipple area whitish clearish liquid came out of my nipples, as a medical assistant I know that this is colostrum. But I had no idea that it could come this early, is that normal? also will i be leaking it whenever my nipples are touched from now until the birth of our baby?(I am going to breast feed so obviously it will be important then lol) Do I need to wear the little pads people put in their bras or what? I was expecting this later in pregnancy and not so soon so im a little freaked out lol i know i shouldnt be, sorry =] thanks for any advice from any moms that have gone through this always

  1. That happened to me after I had an abortion at only 6 weeks. (no need for hate message people)
  2. I don't know nuthin 'bout women's stuff, but when my truck tire's a leakin stuff, I pull over n' patch it!
  3. Don't worry. I started producing colostrum at about 3 months pregnant, and my doctor told me that as long as it wasn't discolored, odd smelling, or a significantly appreciable amount, it's fine. You should get some nursing pads, just in case it happens in public. Gerber makes some that are VERY soft, and VERY thin. Cheers
  4. Well usually this early you will only have a leeking issue when pressure is applied. But as the pregnancy progresses you will have this happen more oftem with less effort. Everyone is different so you may start to have a leeking issue. Keeping some breastpads around just in case is never a bad idea. This has happened to me and it completely freaked me out the first time, because like you it happened so early. Wearing breast pads to bed is a really good idea, that is when I would discover the most leeking. Just the pressure of me laying on my side was enough to get me to leek a bit. Best of luck!
  5. Yea, it's fine. You can get some breast pads at the grocery in the baby isle. It will keep coming, it wont matter how much leaks out, there will be plenty for baby! Kudo's on your decision!
  6. Don't worry, babe. Completely normal. Not only will it keep leaking, but wait till the second child, it may leak all the way through. Your body knows when the baby is actually born and when to change to milk after the colostrum. Don't worry.
  7. my daughter had the same problem when she had her pregnancy and she had to put tissue paper in her bra.
  8. yes honey its completely normal. I've had it start leaking as late as 38 weeks and as early as 15 weeks during the course of 4 pregnancies. You may or may not leak consistently. If you notice that the leaking is consistant then yes you could get the breast pads to avoid embarrassing accidents.
  9. Yep. Your body is preparing for what will be needed for your infant. Your body is ready and knows what to do, even if you are not quite ready for it. Yes, the lactating pads will help keep your bra clean. Congrats!!
  10. It's perfectly normal - just your body preparing to feed the little one! I started leaking around 24 weeks, my mom started at around 18. It will only drip out occasionally right now (mine always happened in the shower - hot water encourages the letdown of milk). I never needed a pad, but if it makes you feel better than by all means wear one. Congratulations - you're almost there!!
  11. My breasts leaked starting at 5 months on my first pregnancy. My Dr. told me it was normal and that my body was a little to ready. I had to wear nursing pads until I was induced at 43 weeks(My dr went on vacation and his replacement didn't look at my charts on visits). Every time it got cold, my shirt rubbed wrong, or there was a crying baby I was leaking. Good luck and get some nursing pads. I hope this helps.
  12. Yes it is normal and yea it will still leak even after you have your baby. So don't worry there will still be milk in them when the baby comes along. And yes i would say buy you some of them pads for your bra cause if you don't then you will be changing shirts alot throughout the day. But Congrats on you baby and good luck!!
  13. Sarah P is right. The same thing happened to me. My doctor said it was unusual but not unheard of. By the time my due date was near, I was soaking the bed at night due to leaky boobs. The good news is, nursing should be a breeze. Best of luck!
  14. Sure it's normal. They start to leak at different times for differet women. It's not an exact science since every womans body is different.
  15. yes I got it at what I thought was early with my last pregnancy. I dont think that you will have to wear the little pad things but I guess that also might depend on how thin your bra is. The best pads to get are those lanisoh ones, the ulta thin ones, man, those are great, you cant see them at all under your clothes and they work wonderfully. Also motherhood maternity sells these things called lilly pads and they keep anything from coming out at all. But yeah, I started to leak early and my baby was full term so dont worry! :)
  16. That's nothin'. I started getting it at 18 weeks. So your normal :)
  17. it's been happening to me for a few weeks now so I sure hope it's normal.
  18. I started leaking at 16wks. It's normal. I do most of my leaking at night so you might want some nursing pads. So far I haven't had any embarrassing moments during the day though. During the day I only get a few drops, not enough to show through, just enough that I can see it on my bra when I take it off.
  19. Yup, already. I believe once you are in your second to thrid semester you can start. With my sister it did. I thought only after having the baby but I was wrong. Do not worry.
  20. yes Angie this is normal get the pads. Luara did that at sixth month with jules.
