Is it ok that my breasts are not leaking colostrum?

I am 33 weeks pregnant and I plan on breast feeding. All of the books say that I should start leaking colostrum. I havnt at all and my breasts dont even hurt in the slightest which is strange to me because they killed in the begining of my pregnancy. Am I still going to be able to produce milk when the baby is here?

  1. That's fine. Not all women leak when they are pregnant. I never leaked, nor did I have breast soreness and my milk came in quite fast after birth.
  2. My breast never leaked until a few days after I had my baby!! Just give it time, you should be just fine. I know plenty of ppl that breastfed, and they didn't start producing anything until after the baby was born.
  3. talk to your doctor and ask him. hope this helps.
  4. I NEVER leaked once prior to birth with all 3 of my children, but I was successful at breastfeeding each of them for a full year. Not every body is the same- don't worry, enjoy your pregnancy. Won't be long now!!
  5. Yea dont worry everyone is diff. Some dont even leak until after the baby is born and are still able to breastfeed so dont worry. Good luck!
  6. I didn't leak at all until my son was born, and seven (almost 8) months later, he's still happily breast feeding (and a larger than average baby, he's 29 inches tall, 23 lbs). I think you'll be fine with breast feeding.
  7. im 32 weeks and i havent had anything either i heard it comes after you have the baby but this is my first baby so im not sure excatly how all this works but good luck and congrats ♥
  8. i havent had any leaking either, but did have the soreness like you said in the beginning and im almost 38 weeks. i dont think its anything to worry about.
  9. Yes it's fine, for some women, "signs" of milk don't start until right before the baby is born or even after the birth.
  10. The colostrum doesn't usually come in until afer you give birth. You can request (that if your baby is healthy) they immediatly give the baby to you after birth. The baby will immediatly start getting the "liquid gold" and your bonding will take place insantly. (Of course they will need to check him first but they will give the baby to you much sooner if you ask.) I recommend having a birth plan. Don't worry-it will come when it's time. The books just didn't want you to be shocked if it came early. Don't worry that your breasts are not sore, they will be again when your milk comes in and possibly while you're nursing. Read as much as you can about nursing before the baby comes so you're not frustrated trying to learn that plus how to take care of your new baby, know as much as you can ahead of time. Also, if you have ANY trouble nursing in the hospital, ask for a lactation consultant to visit you, it's free.
