When should my breast begin producing colostrum?
I'm 28 weeks and have not begun leaking anything yet. I'm sure it seems strange to be worried that I'm not leaking, but this is my first pregnancy, so I have no ide what is normal.

- i am 37 weeks pregnant and i am not leaking at all well sometimes it will leak and that is after i get out of the shower and if i squeeze stuff will come out but dont worry all people vary so dont leak until after there baby is born goodluck and congrats
- I never leaked while pregnant and have been breastfeeding for the past 6 months. It is normal to both leak and not. You will have colostrum until your milk comes in, which is usually a couple days after birth. Check out babycenter.com under the pregnancy section. There is a lot of information on the site about pregnancy and beyond.
- I never leaked. My milk didn't even come in until three days after my son was born. Don't stress. Its normal. You will leak enough after the baby is born. Enjoy your dry t-shirt and bra while you have the time.
- don't worry- it's normal to leak, but also not to! I went to a breastfeeding class this past weekend, and the lactation consultant asked how many of us had noticed some colostrum, and only about half the class raised their hand, which she said was right on target- only about half of women will leak prior to giving birth. i wouldn't be worried if i were you- you'll have plenty of time to leak afterward if you are really looking forward to it :) Good luck and congratulations!
- My first pregnancy, I started leaking around 5-6 months, My second I never did leak. You never know, every woman's body is so different I wouldn't worry about anything.
- You will start to produce colostrum towards the end of your pregnancy and you may not even notice. It's usually in the 8th or 9th month and you probably won't leak unless you squeeze your breast around your nipple. It will be clear-ish or slightly yellow. It will change to milk (what people call "milk coming in") anywhere from 2-5 days after your baby is born. Once that baby is born, nurse, nurse, nurse! That will help your milk come in faster, make for a happier baby, and reduce your chances of engorgement. So glad you are thinking about colostrum already! It's liquid gold for that baby!
- I have a 3 month old baby -- our first baby. My wife said it's right after the baby is born or after the placenta is removed. Colostrum last for about 2 to 3 days before the breast starts to produce milk.
- Your colostrum will come in as soon as your baby is born. While you are pregnant you might experience tenderness in your breast and perhaps some crustiness at the nipples but there won't be any actual leakage until after the birth.
- Mine just started leaking at 25 weeks...just a couple drops though...and I was told that's a bit early. Some women don't notice anything until closer to delivery, like 36 weeks. Talk to your doctor if you're worried, but chances are your body knows it's got another 3 months before that baby comes along and isn't in a big hurry to turn into a milk factory just yet.
- I have several friends whose colostrum didn't leak at all until the baby came. I wouldn't be worried!
