Producing brestmilk again after 'running dry' 5 months ago?
My 6 month old stayed in hospital for a while immediately after birth, due to a medical condition. I was unable to breastfeed her, so I pumped breastmilk for her for a month after birth, before running dry (even though I was on extra hormone supplements). She only returned home into my care two weeks ago. For the last two weeks, I have had an increasing daily pain in my breasts, for which I found no explanation until yesterday. I noticed last night that I seem to have noticeably increased some sort of liquid production in my breasts - maybe colostrum? Is there any chance that I could possibly pick-up my milk supply again, and start breastfeeding her (instead of giving her that nasty formula anymore)?

- yes, you need to see a lactation consultant and they will help you through the process. Try La Leche League , they are great. You started producing a little bit of milk again cause a baby's crying is a stimulation for your body to produce milk...isn't nature just amazing. You can do it with a bit of help.
- Keep her on formula BUT WHen her feeding time comes pump even if nothing comes out.Do you have shooting pains?Just keep pumping!
- Yes you can! Try nursing at the beginning, when she is hungry, but not super hungry...so she will have more patience. Maybe even when she just wants to suckle...instead of a pacifier. It's the stimulation that's going to help! Try pumping or hand expressing! Your body is recognizing it's need. Good luck!
- okay yes you can do this!! get together with your lactation consultant, visit la leche league and set up a plan to start lactating the LC will set you up with a high grade pump get skin to skin with your baby asap.....have her in her diaper, you with no shirt and keep her on your chest as much as possible....let her smell you, practice getting her to latch don't try to force her to latch....but if you keep her there with access to your breasts allowing her to lick and smell she could with minimal coaxing latch on.....but it will take her some training to learn this after learning the bottle check into herbs for inducing lactation NO pacifiers!!....if she needs to comfort suck then offer your breast good luck honey and get on it!!
- Yes you can. Non-pregnant women have lactated. Get her latched on, pump, and see an IBCLC and/or go to a LLL meeting. Nurse first, then formula. ANY amount of breastmilk is good for baby.
