  1. good luck with that, I would consult a lactation specialist NOW I tried it unsuccesfully and still to this day regret not making a better effort to resolve the problem. Yes u can mix it in with the formula, as far as storage I wouldnt keep past 24 hrs, neway I had large breasts and flat nipples and went through the same expeience, hang in there and seek professional help: WIC is a free service and they have trained counselors that can help you
  2. Yes, you can definitely add it in. The link below gives guidelines for storage. As the previous poster said, you need to see a lactation consultant asap if you have not already done so. And if you have done so and have not been satisfied, see another one. It's free and if you get your baby latched on right from the beginning, it will save you a lot of heartache. I strongly suggest contacting your local La Leche League.
  3. wonderful first answer, but to add to it, yes you can add the colostrum to the formula. You can keep it in to fridge for 2 days, I wouldn't recommend freezing your colostrum because freezing kills alot of the good stuff in it. Give it to the baby with the formula and definatly get a lactation consultant to help you with the latching problem. Do your best to not give up breast feeding. Use bottle nipples that closly match your own so the baby won't get nipple confussion. Good luck!
  4. Yes i think you could add it to formula, but i wouldnt store it past 24hrs in the fridge....I think you'll find that when yor milk comes in baby will latch on better, as colostrum can be so thick that it doesnt come out much (well this happened with me -and as soon as my milk came in, baby latched on straightaway)
  5. Colostrum can be added to formula & colostrum or breastmilk keeps very well by itself in the fridge for around a week or a freezer for months. Why store it - your milk is designed specially for your baby? Formula on the other hand should never be stored as there are big risks with bacteria multiplying fast. If you only have colostrum your baby must only be a few days old - please get assistance getting baby latched. If you do not have a visiting midwife or can't see a lactation consultant then ring or see La Leche League. Your precious baby only needs a tiny amount of feed because her tummy is only between the size of a marble & a walnut. Keep trying to latch every time baby cues to feed, without waiting until she is frantic & crying - this is a late stage of hunger. You might like to try with both of you after a relaxing bath together skin to skin so your levels of oxytocin & prolactin rise & your milk lets down more strongly. Good luck
  6. You should really consult a lactation consultant (they can answer your question and help your little one to latch) and your baby's pediatrician. I was told not to add breast milk to formula because it is too many vitamins all rolled into one. Use either formula or breast milk was the doctors advice to me but you really should not take my or anyone else's answer as law because this is your babys health on the line. Hope everything works out for you.
  7. yes, it will give him a good start in life. you can freeze it, or you can keep it in the fridge for up to 24 hours.
  8. Yes, you can add what you are pumping to your baby's formula. But you and baby are better off breastfeeding. Please contact your local chapter of La Leche League, and/or look at this web site: <drjacknewman.com>
  9. Yes you can add formula to it,I did for 10 months due to my son having a heart defect and many surgery's and not eating or gaining enough weight, with that said I would not do it unless you have talked to a pediatric dietitian not a pediatrician! You can cause extreme gas and constipation if it is not done right,I don't think you need to add it,as long as you pump every 2 or so hours even through the night 24/7 you will make enough.Try every day to latch your baby on and please contact the La leche League, they will give you alot of help with breast feeding.
