leaking colostrum during pregnancy?

i'm 26 1/2 weeks pregnant and have been leaking colostrum (i guess thats what its called before delivery) for several weeks. i notice it especially after a hot shower (no big deal i know). my question is that it used to be just a clear syrupy liquid-- now i've noticed it has what looks like milk mixed in with it (its about a 50/50 mixture now)-- is that normal before delivery? let me reword my question: is it normal to have the milk mixture colostrum now? or is it supposed to be clear still?

  1. i did as well around that time in my first pregnancy, i would wake up wet it was alot really. Doc told me it was fine and normal. This pregnancy i only had it once and im 37 weeks.
  2. Yes, the leaking of colostrum during pgcy is very much a normal thing. I leaked during my pgcies, and earlier with the subsequent one. The colostrum is full of nutrients and very beneficial to the baby when nursing. Milk comes in a couple of days or so after childbirth.
  3. Sounds normal to me. It can vary in colour and transparency from day to day too. Sometimes it can look like skimmed milk and other times it can be quite opaque and almost peach in colour. Showers can very often cause it to leak out as you rightly said.
  4. This is absolutely normal and nothing to worry about. The leaking is a fluid called colostrum. Colostrum is the first "milk" that the breasts produce as a precursor to breast milk. Your breasts have been growing and developing throughout your pregnancy and are now producing this rich, high-protein pre-milk, ready for when your baby is born. Colostrum is actually produced in the breast from about 16 weeks and is a thick, creamy or yellow substance. The discharge can be clear, cloudy, white, yellow, green, or brown.
