We've recently acquired 6, 2 week old english bull terrier puppies because the mother refused to nurse them. They got the mother's colostrum by muzzling her and holding her down to nurse, but after that, they were given to us. We've been nursing them with raw organic goat milk and they've been doing great. Luckily, we have an unspayed female of the same breed who has had a litter in the past (Not recently). She's been caring for the litter, cleaning them and sleeping with them and all that. A couple days ago, she actually started lactating, she's not near a heat and its been a year and a half since her last litter. The vet has already confirmed that its safe for them to nurse off her as long as we keep supplementing them with the goat's milk. How can I ensure that she'll start weening the puppies off at the appropriate time without keeping them separated?I'm worried that because she didn't whelp them that she'll neglect to ween and I don't want to completely separate them if possible. Crystal -- We used that recipe and it caused the puppies to bloat. We get our goats milk right from the goat, which is fed organically with no added hormones or antibiotics, and there is no reason to add anything to it. Its used on human babies and we've had great success with it on the puppies as well. It was only when we added ingredients that they got sick. But thanks : )
