Immune System and viruses?
I have a question that I couldn't find a comprehansive answer for. My question is when a human cell is infected with a virus, how will the immune system recognize that cell so that it can clear/kill the virus or otherwise kill the cell itself to prevent the virus replication. I am still not sure if the immune system can even recognize those infected cells. If it does, then how come the HIV infected T-Cells are not killed to prevent HIV from replicating?! I am confused why our immune system can clear some viruses (like cold for example) and cannot clear some others!

- hiv is different, because it infects our immune system cells. normally our t-cells recognize the virus and eliminate it. but when they are the targets, they cannot do that. i'm sure that if you google - immune system hiv virus - you'll get several hits, that will provide a better explanation than you'll get here.
- the immune system attacks foreign bodies as threats. they try to destroy that foreign body. virus are self limiting. that means that they eventually die either bec they are at their limit or because the host is already dead. the HIV virus diasbles the abilitiy of the immune system that is why most people with hiv die from common infections such as a common cold. if you really want to understand whats going on in a cellular level, i suggest you buy a pathophysiology book. it is really helpful in understanding the disease process of some viruses. it could also provide explanations on other diseases of thehuman body.
- viruses have a certain DNA code. The job of the T-cells is to identify and inject their own code into the virus and destory it. if the immune system can't identify a foreign invader it can't fight it very well. HIV infects T-cells and makes them attack other T-cells. the reason the immune system doesn't attack them is because they see these as "friendly".
- hiv/aids has to do with your t-cells when you get aids then you have lower t-cells thats my understanding. I put some links for you to look up to answer this question since I did not know.
